Exploring the Circulation System
As part of their science topic, 'The Circulation System', Year 6 had the opportunity to examine and then dissect a sheep heart
First they carried out an external examination of the heart, noting the muscle (red) and fat (white). They talked about the size of the sheep’s heart and that it is about the same as an adult human’s. Each pupil’s heart would be about the same size as their fist. Pupils were able to put their fingers into the blood vessels to feel the cavity inside the heart and to examine the four chambers. Some of us were a little bit squeamish at first, but we really enjoyed the hands on experience.
